What is a Boudoir?
So what exactly is a ‘Boudoir’? And how in the world do you even pronounce it? Not to worry, because we’ve got you covered :) Merriam Dictionary defines it as such:
Bou•doir (bü-ˈdwär) : a woman's dressing room, bedroom, or private sitting room. (French)
But what exactly is it? I mean, you’ve heard some of your friends chit chat about it. Maybe your social media timeline has been graced by images of a boudoir photo shoot done by a photographer that you follow. Perhaps you’ve even been curious enough to Google it and have seen some amazing (and some not so flattering) artwork. Whatever the case may be, it’s a thing, and is growing in popularity as more and more individuals and couples take the leap to celebrate and empower themselves in this bucket-list type experience.
Picture this; a classy, sophisticated woman, donning full make-up, hair elegantly styled, in her private sitting room, self-pampering and preparing for a romantic night out. Or, perhaps returning at the end of the night, high heels, elegant dress, sexy lingerie, slowly disrobing and releasing the tension imposed on her body by her garments in the most tasteful and sensual manner. Our guess is that this is the imagery that initiated the boudoir photography movement.
Nowadays, the boudoir experience has crossed line of ‘women only’ to include men and couples. It has expanded in its purpose and has become a celebration of one’s self; a commemoration of a milestone, a rekindling of passion, a freezing of time, a rewarding of one’s self, or even simply a ‘just because’.
Boudoir has come to be what you want it to be. There are no judgements, no rules, no expectations. It’s all about being the sexy and confident you that you were meant to be. It can accentuate the softness of the look in your eyes as you glance over your shoulder, or the naughtiness of a suggestive touch with your hands. You are in control.
